We were honoured to be featured on CBC Manitoba’s The Weekend Morning Show to share the story of our new initiative: Bridging Generations: An Intergenerational Connection and Well-being Project, proudly funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
Hosted by CBC’s Nadia Kidwai, the interview offered us the opportunity to speak about the growing issue of social isolation among older adults and youth, and how this project is creating meaningful opportunities for connection, learning, and mutual care across generations.
Bridging Generations brings together seniors, youth, and community members through storytelling, mentorship, volunteer engagement, and shared activities. It’s built on the understanding—reinforced by research from the World Health Organization and Canadian social prescribing networks—that loneliness is a public health issue. Strengthening intergenerational ties is one way we can address that, building more compassionate, connected communities.
We invite you to tune in to our CBC segment, available on the CBC Listen App or listen here to hear how this project is already making a difference.
Thank you to CBC Manitoba and Nadia Kidwai for shining a light on this important work and to the New Horizons for Seniors Program for believing in our vision.
If you’d like to get involved, whether as a volunteer, partner, or participant, we’d love to hear from you!
In a world that's moving faster than ever, one timeless truth remains: connection matters—especially across generations. The Catholic Health Association of Manitoba (CHAM) is excited to introduce a new initiative designed to celebrate and strengthen those connections: the Bridging Connections: Intergenerational Connection and Well-being Initiative, proudly funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
While many older adults are living longer, healthier lives, social isolation continues to affect their mental and emotional well-being. At the same time, many young people miss out on the enriching relationships that come from connecting with older generations.
That’s where Bridging Connections steps in.
This initiative brings seniors and youth together in ways that are both meaningful and fun. The program includes:
Storytelling Circles: A safe space where experiences, life lessons, and laughter are shared.
Skill-Sharing Workshops: Participants teach and learn practical or cultural skills—knitting, coding, cooking, art, and more.
Collaborative Cultural Projects: From community murals to music and dance, we’ll celebrate diversity and heritage together.
These activities don’t just pass time—they pass on tradition, strengthen community roots, and improve overall well-being for everyone involved.
We’re calling on:
Seniors with stories, wisdom, or skills to share
Youth interested in learning and engaging with elders
Volunteers who want to make a difference
Community partners who can host or support events

At CHAM, we believe in a future where generations uplift one another, not just in homes but across entire communities. Together, we’re bridging gaps—not just in age, but in understanding, belonging, and purpose.
Let’s build that future. Together.
